Title : Factors influencing the decision to use in vitro fertilization among infertile couples attending public tertiary health facilities in India
Abstract:
Infertility is a significant public health and reproductive health challenge in India, affecting the physical, psychological, social, and economic well-being of couples. With the increasing availability and acceptance of assisted reproductive technologies, in vitro fertilization (IVF) has emerged as an important treatment option for couples who fail to conceive through conventional infertility management. However, the decision to utilize IVF is complex and influenced by a range of interconnected socio demographic, cultural, reproductive, knowledge related, attitudinal, economic, and health system factors. Understanding these determinants is essential for developing equitable reproductive health policies, improving access to fertility services, and addressing barriers to care. This study assessed the factors influencing the decision to use IVF among infertile couples attending an Indian University and Teaching Institute in India, with the aim of generating evidence to inform public health interventions, patient centered fertility counseling, and reproductive health service planning.
