Title : Mental health awareness and public health challenges among students
Abstract:
Mental health has emerged as a significant public health concern among students due to increasing academic pressure, social expectations, technological influence, and changing lifestyles. Students at school and college levels frequently experience psychological challenges such as stress, anxiety, depression, emotional instability, and social isolation. These issues not only affect academic performance but also influence physical health, interpersonal relationships, and overall quality of life. This presentation examines the growing prevalence of mental health disorders among students and explores the major contributing factors responsible for psychological distress. Academic competition, examination fear, family expectations, financial difficulties, peer pressure, excessive social media usage, digital addiction, and lack of emotional support are identified as key causes affecting student mental well-being. The study also highlights how prolonged mental stress can lead to reduced concentration, low self-confidence, behavioral changes, and poor academic outcomes. The presentation emphasizes the importance of mental health awareness programs, counseling services, emotional support systems, and preventive healthcare strategies within educational institutions. Special attention is given to the role of yoga, meditation, physical activities, and stress management practices in improving emotional balance and psychological resilience among students. In addition, the significance of teacher support, parental involvement, and community participation in promoting positive mental health is discussed. The role of public health policies and educational reforms in strengthening mental healthcare accessibility is also examined. Community-based mental health initiatives, awareness campaigns, and digital mental health support platforms are considered effective approaches for early identification and intervention. The study concludes that improving mental health education and providing timely psychological support can enhance student well-being, academic success, and social development. Promoting a healthy educational environment is essential for building emotionally strong and mentally healthy future generations.
