Antimicrobial and Antibacterial Agents

Antimicrobial and Antibacterial Agents

Antimicrobial and antibacterial agents are substances used to prevent or treat infections caused by microorganisms. Antibacterial agents specifically target bacteria, while antimicrobials include drugs effective against bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. These agents are essential in treating infectious diseases, preventing complications, and supporting modern medical care. However, improper use contributes to antimicrobial resistance. Research focuses on developing new agents, improving drug delivery, and enhancing effectiveness while minimizing side effects. From a public health perspective, responsible use and regulation of antimicrobial agents are essential for maintaining treatment efficacy and preventing resistance. Continued innovation and stewardship are necessary to address emerging infectious threats.
