E-Waste

E-Waste

Electronic Waste (E-waste) includes discarded electronic devices such as computers, mobile phones, televisions, batteries, and electronic appliances. Rapid technological advancement and short product lifecycles have led to a growing global e-waste problem. Improper disposal and recycling of e-waste release hazardous substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and flame retardants into the environment. These toxins pose serious risks to human health, including neurological damage, respiratory illness, cancer, and developmental disorders. Informal recycling practices particularly endanger workers and nearby communities. Public health approaches to e-waste management focus on safe recycling, regulation, extended producer responsibility, and public awareness. Environmentally sound e-waste management reduces pollution, conserves resources, and protects both environmental and population health.
