Immunization

Immunization

Immunization is one of the most effective public health interventions for preventing infectious diseases and reducing morbidity and mortality worldwide. It works by stimulating the immune system to protect individuals and communities against specific pathogens. Immunization programs target diseases such as measles, polio, influenza, hepatitis, and many others. In public health, immunization contributes to herd immunity, protecting vulnerable populations who cannot be vaccinated. Effective immunization strategies include routine childhood vaccination, booster doses, catch-up campaigns, and emergency vaccination during outbreaks. Surveillance, cold-chain management, and public education are essential components of successful programs. Addressing vaccine hesitancy and ensuring equitable access remain key challenges. By preventing outbreaks and reducing healthcare burden, immunization strengthens health security, saves lives, and supports long-term population health and economic development.
