Population Health Metrics

Population Health Metrics

Population Health Metrics are quantitative measures used to assess health status, disease burden, and health system performance across populations. Common metrics include life expectancy, mortality rates, incidence and prevalence of disease, Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs), Quality-Adjusted Life Years (QALYs), and health equity indicators. In public health, these metrics enable comparison across regions, time periods, and population groups, guiding priority setting and resource allocation. Population health metrics support monitoring of trends, evaluation of interventions, and assessment of health inequalities. Accurate and timely data are essential for effective measurement and decision-making. By translating complex health information into standardized indicators, population health metrics provide a foundation for evidence-based policy, accountability, and continuous improvement of population health outcomes.
