Public Health Nurses

Public Health Nurses

Public Health Nurses play a vital role in promoting and protecting the health of individuals, families, and communities. They focus on disease prevention, health promotion, and addressing social determinants of health rather than only treating illness. Public health nurses work in community settings such as schools, clinics, homes, and public health departments. Their responsibilities include immunization programs, maternal and child health services, health education, disease surveillance, and management of communicable and chronic diseases. They also respond to public health emergencies, conduct screenings, and provide counseling on nutrition, hygiene, mental health, and healthy lifestyles. Public health nurses act as a bridge between healthcare systems and communities, especially underserved populations. By combining clinical skills with public health knowledge, they help reduce health disparities, improve access to care, and strengthen community health outcomes.
