Respiratory infections are a major public health concern due to their high transmissibility and significant contribution to global morbidity and mortality. They are caused by a wide range of pathogens, including viruses, bacteria, and fungi, and are commonly spread through respiratory droplets, aerosols, or close contact. Diseases such as influenza, pneumonia, and acute respiratory infections disproportionately affect children under five, older adults, and people with chronic illnesses or weakened immune systems. Environmental factors such as air pollution, tobacco smoke, overcrowding, and poor ventilation increase the risk of infection and severe outcomes. In low-resource settings, delayed diagnosis, limited access to healthcare, and malnutrition further worsen disease impact. Public health interventions focus on vaccination, early detection, surveillance, respiratory hygiene, infection control measures, and reduction of environmental risk factors. Strengthening primary healthcare systems, promoting awareness, and improving living conditions are essential to reduce the burden of respiratory infections.
