Telehealth and Telemedicine are innovative approaches in public health that use digital technologies to deliver healthcare services, health information, and clinical support across distances. Telemedicine typically refers to remote clinical services such as consultations, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care, while telehealth has a broader scope that includes health education, remote monitoring, public health surveillance, and health promotion. In public health, telehealth improves access to care for rural, remote, and underserved populations by reducing barriers related to distance, cost, and workforce shortages. It supports continuity of care, chronic disease management, mental health services, and timely response during public health emergencies. Telehealth and telemedicine also enhance health system efficiency by reducing hospital visits and enabling early intervention. When implemented with attention to data privacy, equity, and digital literacy, these technologies strengthen health systems, promote patient-centered care, and contribute to more accessible, resilient, and sustainable public health services.
