Viruses

Viruses

Viruses are microscopic infectious agents that require living host cells to replicate. They infect humans, animals, and plants and cause a wide range of diseases, from mild illnesses such as the common cold to severe conditions like HIV/AIDS, COVID-19, hepatitis, and Ebola. Viruses spread through various routes, including respiratory droplets, bodily fluids, contaminated surfaces, and vectors. Public health efforts focus on prevention through vaccination, hygiene, surveillance, antiviral treatments, and outbreak control measures. Understanding viral transmission, mutation, and immune response is critical for pandemic preparedness. Effective viral disease control reduces mortality, prevents outbreaks, and strengthens global health security.
