Women, Gender, and Mental Health examines how gender roles, social expectations, and biological factors influence mental health outcomes among women and gender-diverse populations. Women experience higher rates of certain mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders, often linked to hormonal changes, caregiving responsibilities, gender-based violence, discrimination, and socioeconomic inequality. Gender norms and stigma can affect help-seeking behavior, access to care, and diagnosis, leading to underrecognition or mismanagement of mental health needs. Life stages such as adolescence, pregnancy, postpartum period, and menopause present unique mental health challenges for women. From a public health perspective, addressing gender and mental health requires gender-sensitive policies, trauma-informed care, and inclusive mental health services. Empowerment, social support, education, and protection of rights play a critical role in prevention and recovery. Promoting gender equity and accessible mental health care improves well-being, resilience, and quality of life across populations.
